City waives business fee, calls it 'stimulus'
Local businesses will get a small break for the rest of the calendar year after council members decided to waive a $50 banner permit fee. The waiver proposal came at the behest of newly elected Councilman Michael Vo. The city stands to lose about $7,000 in permit fees, but Vo called it a "business stimulus resolution."

At 17 years old, Michael Vo knew his life had taken a turn when he caught sight of a woman in the driver's seat of a bus he'd just stepped onto in Hawaii. "I was shocked," said Vo, who is now 48. Councilman donates his stipend to charities

Michael Vo fulfilled a longtime dream last year of being elected to the Fountain Valley City Council. But he's not in it for the money. And if anyone doubts that, he has a committee to back him up. Welcome

  Michael Vo
  Businessman

I’ve lived in Fountain Valley for more than 20 years. It’s a great place to raise a family. But we are facing problems in the future.

Decreased sales tax revenue contributed to a budget deficit of more than $5 million. This should have been avoided and will get worse. To face problems of tomorrow, we need new leaders, new ideas and a fresh vision for the city. More simply, we need to restore lost sales tax revenue and
control our spending.

I’ve built a small business that provides local jobs and understand that small businesses are the economic core of a community. We need to support our small business partners. When Fountain Valley businesses succeed, the entire community succeeds.

Fiscal controls at City Hall will ensure that we never spend beyond our means. These controls, when combined with creating a supportive environment for businesses will ensure that we can improve public safety, maintain our roads, and increase educational opportunities without raising taxes.

My endorsements include Jim Kanno, Fountain Valley’s first Mayor, and Congressman Ed Royce. I’m not a career politician and will happily comply with Fountain Valley’s term limits.

Together we can keep Fountain Valley great for future generations.
